The Duke Peterson and Randy Davis Memorial Scholarship Program
The SquawFree Duke Peterson and Randy Davis Memorial Scholarship Program was established in 2007. This program was created in memory of two SquawFree coaches, Duke Peterson and Randy Davis. Duke and Randy were amazing men and spent a great portion of their life as both a competitor and coach on this team. Their memory will live on through the SquawFree Memorial Scholarship!
Together with the help of Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, SquawFree will award up to eight scholarships to deserving student athletes who want to train hard to become world-class Freeride, Freeski or Freestyle athletes like Duke and Randy. Applicants should demonstrate a need for assistance, strong work ethic, a 3.0 GPA or higher and a letter of reference from a teacher, coach or guidance counselor. Applicants must live in the Reno-Tahoe area, be able to demonstrate proficiency in skiing all levels of terrain at Squaw Valley, be willing and able to train full time (12pm-4pm Tues-Fri and weekends) and have transportation to training daily.
Award recipients will receive a Squaw/Alpine Gold Pass for the applicable season and will have all team registration fees waived.
Award recipients will be required to pay entrance fees for any and all competition events in which they choose to compete. Award recipients will also be required to pay all of their own travel costs according to team guidelines if they choose to participate in any Team events that require travel.
The Duke Peterson Award is given to one of these scholarship athletes for having the most positive energy and being the best role model possible for the team, exemplifying a good attitude and attendance to all practices and competitions.
…we remember you Duke and Randy, and on the good days out there on the hill, we ski with you in our hearts…

“Squaw Valley Freestyle is here for athletes to progress, achieve goals and be successful. The coaches always have your back on or off snow. As a freeskier I have developed strength, integrity, empathy, respect, responsibility and adventure. Squaw Free is willing to support my development and push me to perform above and beyond to reach my fullest potential.”
– Marea Adams ( two time scholarship recipient)
“SquawFree has given me more than I can return. It has not only giving me skills in the sport I fell in love with, but life lessons as well. The environment that Squaw Free provides its athlete, truly lets one express themselves, and excel in the sport of skiing. The amazing coaches, and the resources that you are given access to, pushing athletes to the next level. To be honest, I have no idea where I would be in the sport of freeskiing, without the help of SquawFree.”
